Katie McGrath is known for her legendary roles in both television and movies. She comes from a well-to-do family and studied from a reputed college in Dublin. During the initial stages of her career, she wanted to work in fashion journalism hence took up a job at the magazine Image. Later she became a wardrobe assistant at The Tudors where she was suggested to try her luck in acting. Thus she sent her photographs to the Irish agents as a part of her portfolio. It was in the year 2007 that she got her big break and having done numerous TV shows and movies, there was no looking back.
In the year 2007, she was cast in an Irish Television-movie, Damage. Additionally, she was also cast in La Marwa, a play at the Dublin Theatre Festival, again in the same year. In 2008, she starred in feature films Freakdog and Eden, following which she was cast in the BBC series Merlin as Morgana Pendragon. McGrath, then in 2009, starred in a 5-part documentary drama which was a research in the life of Queen Elizabeth II, for Channel 4. Here she was casted in the character of a young Princess Margaret and Emilia Fox cast as the Queen. The two actresses were cast together in Merlin as sisters, Morgana and Morgause.
In the following year 2010, she starred in the directorial debut of Madonna’s, W.E. which was a biopic of Edward VIII. She portrayed the character of Lady Furness who was the king’s erstwhile mistress. The year 2011 saw her bringing A Princess for Christmas, a comedy-drama in Romania. Later, in September, she lent her voice for an Irish animation movie, Tríd an Stoirm (Through the Storm). In the same month, she portrayed the character of Oriane Congost in Labyrinth.
The next coming years have been great for her with ample of scope and exploration in the field of acting. She has done innumerable movie and television roles and has also starred in a music video. She also got nominated because of her character portrayal in 2009 and 2011 as outstanding actress- drama series for Merlin. This was the prestigious event of Monte-Carlo TV Festival. Furthermore she also got nominated for Supergirl as Choice Scene Stealer in 2018 at the Teen Choice Award. In her upcoming series, she will be seen essaying the role of a bisexual lawyer, Saskia, who is a very loyal and intelligent lady holding a secret. The release date is yet to be announced.
